The most common question I get about Ellie from other parents in the Down syndrome community is, "What do you do for her speech?"
I've covered that topic in the past (school, great EI, and a mom who won't shut up being the main things). While fine motor and gross motor tasks continue to challenge Ellie, speech has been fairly strong for a kid with Down syndrome. Her speech certainly isn't the same as her four year old typical peers, but she's had some great quotable moments lately.
At the bookstore
Me: Should we get a book for sister?
Me: Why not?
Ellie: Caroline can't read.
Conversations before 6 am
Me: What's the rule?
Ellie: We wear pants
Me: Yes. So put on your pants
Ellie: Okay. But then I'm wearing gloves on my hands.
Totally out of the blue:
Ellie: "I don't want to smell stinky flowers. Stinky flowers are gross."
